Taulanga U provides family-centered support services through our Whanau Resilience programme, family violence prevention as part of Pasifika Proud, Whanau Ora support from Pasifika Futures, engaging priority families for the Ministry of Education and Covid-19 support services to vulnerable families across the Auckland region. We have significant experience and knowledge on providing family-centred services, in collaboration with our church families, the government agencies and key stakeholders.
Taulanga U supports the youth to participate in the annual sports activites in collaboration with the church “Akoako”(youth) committee. The sports activities focus on participation rather than who wins or loses to achieve a spirit of love, joy and peace. We are grateful for the support from long-standing funders such as the Northern Foundation. Their on-going support enhances the wellbeing of our youth and their fanau.
We have provided cultural activities and programmes designed for our families and youth groups. Our annual cultural day is a popular event that attracts significant support and participation by youth groups from the 22 local Auckland branches of the church.
This event helps our youth to reconnect with their own innate values and culture, build self-esteem and be proud of their Tongan culture.
Our Whanau Resilience programme is based on a co-design and long-term healing practices with our families, community, providers and church. The service provides a programme that builds stronger families free from domestic violence and abuse. Our “FAKAMELINO” advisor is a registered social worker and ordained reverend with the skills and experience to work with at-risk families.
This service is available to any family that needs intensive support. The aim of Whanau Resilience is to create strong, resilient communities where families are supported to live violence free and to eliminate violence for the next generation.
Through Whanau Ora, Taulanga U provides a water-safety programme through the Pacific Vaka Ha’ofanga (PVF) safer boating initiative.
We provide a day-skipper course for inexperienced small fishing boat owners. The objective is to help recreational boat users avoid getting into difficulties by helping them understand the maritime environment, the capabilities of their boats, the rules of the sea, and actions to be taken in emergencies.
The Corona virus has impacted and affected many of our vulnerable families. Taulanga U is able to help these families since March 2020 and continues to do so. We want to make sure that all vulnerable families achieve an acceptable standard of living.
